One of the ‘killer’ new features that will be coming up on the new iPhones is a fingerprint scanner. It has been rumored that the scanner will be somehow integrated into the home button. But there have been suggestions that the scanner might be integrated onto the home screen as well. Wherever they put it, it’ll be a lot cooler than the normal swipe to unlock

There have been suggestions that this feature will in fact be there on the next iPhone, for example the leaked software contains “Photo of a person holding an iPhone with their left hand while touching the Home button with their thumb.”

It is of course a possibility that Apple may just be teasing us by letting us all believe that the rumors are true, but Apple can’t be that cruel. Can they?

Apple spent $365 million on AuthenTech, a security firm, back in July 2012 and rumours of a fingerprint scanner have been doing the rounds ever since. At the time, AuthenTech said it has shipped more than 100 million fingerprint sensors for integration in portable electronics including over 15 million mobile phones.

Developers are hoping that Apple makes the API available to them, this would see it being used in all different ways.

Whatever Apple decides, we can expect it to be the right decision. Apple isn’t known for slacking off and settling for ‘normal’. We can count on Apple to make our jaws drop.
