Check Out These Galaxy S4 Spin-Offs

With the Samsung Galaxy S4 having only recently been released (even in India – read bout it here), Samsung isn’t slowing down for anything. With 2 spin-off phones already announced (not including the Samsung Galaxy Mega phones – read about them here), Samsung is on a wild rampage releasing phone after phone. These two new phones are called the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Samsung Galaxy Core.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
Designed exactly like the Samsung Galaxy S4, the “Zoom”, as the name suggests, will focus primarily on the camera of Samsung’s flagship. While the flagship already ships with a 13-Megapixel camera, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will ship with a whopping 16-Megapixel camera with a x10 optical zoom. Of course, there’s no telling at this time whether this will be better than the Nokia Lumia 920‘s camera, the best camera in a phone at the time of writing (read about the technology behind this camera here).

It seems as though Samsung wants to capture the market of photographers with their inventions like the Samsung Galaxy Camera and this new phone. However, with a sequel expected to their popular camera later this year, why would Samsung choose to release a smart-phone in competition? Maybe this means that the Samsung Galaxy Camera will have an even better camera (not to mention with a better sensor) coming later this year…

Sadly though, to ensure that the price of this phone stays moderate, and perhaps to ensure that nothing threatens Samsung’s precious flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will ship with lower specifications than the Samsung Galaxy S4 itself. Nonetheless, if you’re a photo-buff, or a newbie at photography, then you might just find yourself at home with this phone. Of course, when the phone is released, we’ll be reporting it here at Decoding Tech. So stay tuned for updates!

Samsung Galaxy Core
While this indeed sounds like a new line-up of phones by Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Core is like a budget Samsung Galaxy S4, with a smaller display, lower specifications, an older version of Android and the same phone-design. With a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 5-Megapixel camera, 1GB RAM and about 8GB of storage, a 4.3″ screen with an average 1800 mAh battery, the phone may seem old, but if you’re looking for the latest at a good price, this is just the phone for you!

Samsung Galaxy Core

The phone has dual SIM slots and runs Android 4.1 JellyBean, and is like the evolution of the rather popular Samsung Galaxy Duos that was released as a budget Samsung Galaxy S3. What’s exciting though, is that most of the Samsung Galaxy S4 hardware perks are available in the Core, such as “Smart Stay”, “Smart Alert”, “S Voice”, “Motion UI” and more! Therefore, even with the low specifications, this phone could be worth every buck.

Others
Samsung is expected to release a Galaxy S4 Mini (much like they did for the Samsung Galaxy S3) sooner or later, with impressive specifications at a lower price as well as a yet-to-be-named waterproof phone (perhaps to compete with Sony‘s new Xperia line-up – read about the new Sony Xperia ZR here). While the phones mentioned above may be exciting in their own ways, I’m most excited for these two phones. Of course, you can be sure to read about them here, on Decoding Tech, when they are released.

Samsung, as always, releases phones like a chicken lays eggs. Some of these eggs, however, really shine out, and it is for these phones that we can tip our hats for Samsung, for doing such a great job. But is it better to release multiple phones, each competing with the other, though from the same company, or to simply follow an upgrade cycle for one flagship, like Apple does?
